Area 1 Security Raises $15M in Series B Funding

area1Area 1 Security, a Redwood City, CA-based stealth cybersecurity company dedicated to eliminating targeted phishing and malicious social engineering attacks, raised $15m in Series B funding round.

The round, which brought funding amount to $25.5m, was led by Joe Horowitz at Icon Ventures and Ted Schlein at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB), with participation from previous investors Allegis Capital, Cowboy Ventures, Data Collective (DCVC), First Round Capital, RedSeal Networks CEO and former Venrock partner Ray Rothrock and Shape Security CEO Derek Smith.

The company will use the funds to advance product development and marketing efforts and expand its proprietary technology.

Led by Oren Falkowitz, Blake Darche, and Phil Syme, Area 1 Security is developing a product focused on eliminating targeted, socially engineered cyber attacks. It leverages a globally-distributed sensor network that provides visibility into the delivery mechanisms attackers are using and empowers organizations to decide how they want to act.
