Monolith Semiconductor, Inc., a Round Rock, Texas-based startup developing silicon carbide technology, received an investment from Littelfuse, a provider of circuit protection solutions.
The investment, whose amount was not disclosed, was part of Littelfuse’s strategy to move significantly into power semiconductors for industrial and automotive markets. Silicon carbide is a semiconductor material that enables power devices to operate at higher switching frequencies and temperatures versus conventional silicon. This allows inverters and other energy conversion systems to be built with improved power density, energy efficiency and cost.
Led by Sujit Banerjee, PhD, CEO, Monolith will use the funds to accelerate development and bring silicon carbide technology to the market.
