Springboard (formerly known as SlideRule), a San Francisco, Calif.-based edtech startup, secured $1.7m in seed funding.
Backers included: Allen Blue, co-founder of LinkedIn; John Katzman, founder of The Princeton Review, 2U and The Noodle Companies; Naveen Tewari, founder and CEO of InMobi; Kartik Hosanagar, the Wharton School professor; 500 Startups, Blue Fog Capital and others.
The company intends to use the funds to increase capacity in courses, provide additional student services and support, and launch courses in new fields.
Led by Gautam Tambay, co-founder and CEO, Springboard is an online school aiming early and mid-level professionals to advance their careers in Data Science and UX Design. It adds a human element that increases accountability and the effectiveness of courses via an industry expert with whom students meet weekly, as well as a community of peers and alumni.
Over 110 data science and design professionals who work at tech companies including Airbnb, Etsy, and LinkedIn, are now part of its network of mentors.
