Following the recent $48.5M in funding, Big Switch Networks, a Santa Clara, CA-based provider of hyperscale-inspired networking solutions to data centers worldwide, named Khosla Ventures Operating Partner, Bruce Armstrong, to its board of directors.
Armstrong has more than 25 years of experience as an operating executive as well as investor. He started his career at Teradata Corporation where – after the company’s IPO and subsequent acquisition by AT&T/NCR – he was named VP & GM of the $500M Enterprise Solutions Division, President of Teradata, and a company officer of AT&T.
Armstrong also served as the VP & GM of the Server Products Group at Sybase running the company’s $700M business. He has also held CEO positions with PivotLink, Kickfire, and KNOVA Software where he guided each of the companies through acquisition.
Led by CEO Douglas Murray, Big Switch Networks provides data center networking technologies to a mainstream data center audience, which leverages OEM/ODM bare metal and open Ethernet switch hardware, SDN control software, and core-and-pod data center designs.
The company provides:
– Big Monitoring Fabric, a Network Packet Broker to monitor and protect existing networks, and
– Big Cloud Fabric, an advanced open networking switching fabric intended for new data center pods such as OpenStack private cloud, VMware workloads, big data, and VDI.
