Poncho Closes $2M Seed Funding Round

poncho-logoPoncho, a NYC-based personalized weather-forecasting service fronted by the eponymous cat from Brooklyn, closed a $2m seed funding round.

The round was led by Lerer Hippeau Ventures with participation from Greycroft Partners, Comcast Ventures LP, Venture51 Capital Partners, RRE Ventures, betaworks, Broadway Video Ventures, Ore Ventures, David Shen, Gordon Crovitz, Craig Forman, and Jim Friedlich through NextNews Ventures.

The company intends to use the funds to continue to build the chatbot interface, deepening its data science and artificial intelligence infrastructure to make the user experience more conversational and learning-driven.

Led by Sam Mandel, CEO, Poncho creates personalized weather forecasts delivered by email, text message, apps and notifications, and now bot interaction via Facebook Messenger or Slack which are tailored to user routines and based on a quick survey of wake-up time, morning commute and allergy and hair concerns.
