Formlabs, a Somerville, MA-based maker of 3D printing technology, acquired Pinshape, a Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada-based 3D printer marketplace and community.
The amount of the deal was not disclosed.
Founded in 2013 by Lucas Matheson, CEO, Pinshape is a 500 Startups-backed company that enables designers and brands to share, market, and sell 3D designs. The acquisition will allow Formlabs to extend its reach in the market and ecosystem with a community of 90,000+ users.
The acquired company will operate as a standalone business within Formlabs.
Founded in 2012 by Max Lobovsky, CEO, and also led by Dávid Lakatos, head of product, Formlabs designs and manufactures powerful and accessible 3D printing systems for engineers, designers, and artists. Their flagship product, the Form 2 3D printer, uses stereolithography (SLA) to create high-resolution physical objects from digital designs. by a team of engineers and designers from the MIT Media Lab and Center for Bits and Atoms.
