Zehus, a Milan, Italy-based smart mobility company, raised €1.5m in venture capital funding.
Backers included Invitalia Ventures via Fondo Italia Venture I and Vittoria Industries, a global bicycle tire maker.
A spin-off of Politecnico di Milano, incubated within M31 and led by Marcello Segato, CEO, Zehus provides Bike+, a comprehensive tech block that combines a battery, an engine and sensors in the rear wheel enabling manufacturers to make electric bicycles with no charging needs.
Bike+ also enables Bluetooth connectivity, which allows final users to connect an iOS and Android smartphone to the block to select a favourite power mode, manage trip data and lock the bike. The smartphone can also act as a gateway through the Zehus community, allowing people to access to services such as online diagnosis, bike-oriented navigation, mobility stats and other social functions (e.g. find a stolen bike).
Customers include electric bicycles manufacturers such as Tred, La Cicleria, Andrea Colussi, etc.
