Civil Maps, an Albany, CA-based provider of 3D mapping technology for fully autonomous vehicles, raised $6.6m in seed funding.
The round was led by Motus Ventures with participation from Ford Motor Company, Wicklow Capital, StartX Stanford and Yahoo cofounder Jerry Yang’s AME Cloud Ventures.
The company will use the funds to accelerate product development and deployment with a number of automotive companies and technology partners.
Led by Sravan Puttagunta, Chief Executive Officer, Civil Maps is advancing artificial intelligence software that aggregates raw 3D data from LiDAR (high-resolution laser imaging), camera and other sensors onboard autonomous vehicles and organizes the information into machine-readable maps to traverse any road without any human intervention.
The company is now working with automotive customers and partners across the world to bring fully autonomous vehicles to market at continental scale.
