Codecademy, a NYC-based digital skills education company, closed a $30m Series C funding round.
The round was led by Naspers – through Naspers Ventures – with participation from existing investors Union Square Ventures, Flybridge Capital Partners, Index Ventures and Sir Richard Branson. In conjunction with the funding, Larry Illg, CEO of Naspers Ventures, joined Codecademy’s Board of Directors.
The company intends to use the funds to expand its product, team and global expansion plans.
Founded by Zach Sims and Ryan Bubinski in 2011, Codecademy provides millions of learners around the world with a platform to discover concepts such as HTML/CSS, Javascript/jQuery, Python, Ruby, PHP, and APIs interactively by writing code and getting constant feedback from peers, creating a networked approach to learning.
