Hyphenate Inc., a San Francisco, CA-based provider of a platform for embedded Mobile Instant Messaging (MIM), raised $13.5m in funding.
The round was led by Matrix Partners China, which joined previous backers Sequoia and SIG.
The company intends to use the funds to expand its presence in the global mobile app ecosystem.
Led by Han Dong, vice president of marketing and general manager, Hyphenate provides a cloud based embedded Mobile Instant Messaging platform for mobile app developers to grow and retain users by enabling them to connect and chat. The MIM platform is used by customers including musical.ly, LesPark, and Zapya.
Hyphenate is the U.S. subsidiary of Easemob Technologies, a Chinese provider of embedded mobile instant messaging solutions.
