Playground Closes $40M Venture Capital Fund

playground_globalPlayground, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based firm that invests in and incubates startups building software-based hardware, closed a $40m fund.

According to a regulatory form filed with the SEC, two investors participated in the offering of Playground Global, LLC.

Co-founded by Andy Rubin (former Android chief), Matt Hershenson, Bruce Leak and Peter Barrett, who are the people related to the offering, Playground Global is a venture capital firm partnering with companies building hardware and software systems that instrument and augment the physical world.

The firm leverages a design studio that supports startups in building products via tools and experts in mechanical and electrical engineering, software, industrial design and manufacturing operations.
