Mashape, a San Francisco, CA-based provider of open API solutions for the enterprise, closed an $18M Series B funding round.
The round was led by Andreessen-Horowitz, with participation from previous investors CRV and Index Ventures. Andreessen-Horowitz’s Martin Casado joined Mashape’s board in conjunction with the funding.
The company will use the funds to hire and grow engineering, support, marketing, and sales teams.
Led by Augusto Marietti, CEO & Co-founder, Mashape provides products to distribute, monetize, manage, analyze and consume APIs. The company’s Kong offers an open source API Layer (also known as an API Gateway, or API Middleware), which runs in front of any RESTful API and is extended through plugins, providing extra functionality and services beyond the core platform.
Kong, originally built at Mashape to secure, manage and extend over 15,000 APIs & Microservices for its API Marketplace, generates billions of requests per month for over 200,000 developers.
In addition to the financing, the company has announced the release of Kong 0.10 with load balancing, service discovery, WebSockets, and AWS Lambda support.
