Zunum Aero Raises Funding from Boeing and JetBlue

Zunum Aero, a Kirkland, Wash.-based electric air travel company, raised a funding round of undisclosed amount.

Backers included Boeing HorizonX and JetBlue Technology Ventures. In conjunction with the funding, Logan Jones, Managing Director, Boeing HorizonX, and Warren Christie, SVP, Safety, Security and Training, JetBlue Airways, joined Zunum’s board.

Co-founded by Ashish Kumar and Matt Knapp, Zunum Aero is building a family of commercial hybrid-to-electric aircraft designed for regional transit, powered by quiet range-optimized powertrain and propulsion technologies.

The company will use the funds to continue to develop its alternative propulsion aircraft solutions and expand operations. It is currently seeking people with expertise in aircraft design, aeroacoustics, propulsors, electric drives, power conversion, battery packs, optimization and control.

Zunum’s founding team also includes Kiruba Haran, Ph.D., Advanced Drives Leader, and Petek Saracoglu, Flight Sciences Engineer.
