Carmera, a New York-based 3D mapping platform for autonomous vehicles, closed $6.4m in Series A funding.
The round was led by Matrix Partners, with participation from Resolute Ventures, Notation Capital, Joe Montana, Bre Pettis, Semil Shah and others. In conjunction with the funding, Hardi Meybaum of Matrix joined Carmera’s board.
The company is using the funds to continue to launch the platform, to continue to develop it and expand operations.
Led by Ro Gupta CEO and Justin Day CTO, Carmera is introducing a real-time, street-level intelligence platform which leverages an owned and professionally crowdsourced vehicular sensor network to gather continually updated 3D scene, change detection and analytics data. Its machine vision and geospatial data pipelines extract insight for autonomous vehicles and built environment data customers, while helping make vehicles on city streets safer and adhering to privacy best practices.
