Koia, a San Diego, CA-based manufacturer of fresh, plant-based protein beverages, closed on $7.5m of seed funding round.
The round was led by KarpReilly, alongside existing institutional investor AccelFoods. As part of this funding, Bill Moses, the founder of Kevita (sold to PepsiCo in 2016), will join Koia’s board of directors.
The company will use the funds to expand the team, support the brand’s rapid retail expansion, and launch a multi-region field marketing campaign.
Founded in 2013 and led by Chris Hunter, CEO, Koia leverages a proprietary blend of brown rice, hemp, and pea proteins to produce refrigerated, ready-to-drink, plant-based protein beverages that are soy-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, and non-GMO.
