Here Be Dragons, a Los Angeles, CA-based production studio focused on virtual reality content, raised $10m in Series A funding.
The round – which valued the company at $55m pre-money – was led by Discovery Communications. In conjunction with the funding, Rebecca Howard, a Discovery executive, will be joining Here Be Dragons’ board of directors.
The company intends to use the funds to continue to expand operations.
Led by CEO Patrick Milling Smith, supported by a creative team of are industry leaders in short-form commercials, music videos, feature film, theatre, design, photography and fine arts including Chris Milk, Samantha Storr, Madelaine Guppy, Edu Pou, John Maloney, Justin Denton, Angie Sun, Catherine Waage, Allese Thomson, Kate Wurzbacher, Brian Carmody, Here Be Dragons is a focused production studio which utilizes custom built tools and technology to create and curate original immersive experiences to support creative innovators in Virtual Reality spherical filmmaking.
