Viome, a Cupertino, Los Alamos, and New York-based AI powered wellness service, raised $15m in Series A funding.
The round, which brings total funding to $21M, was led by Khosla Ventures with participation from Bold Capital Partners. In conjunction with the funding, Khosla Ventures, led by managing partner Vinod Khosla, will receive one seat on the Viome’s board.
The company intends to use the funds to launch its at-home health kit, specifically targeting the Microbiome.
Founded by CEO Naveen Jain, CTO Guruduth Banavar, and CSO Momo Vuyisich, Viome uses proprietary technology licensed through its partnership with the Los Alamos National Laboratory to provide services offering visibility into the ecosystem of the body to create molecular profiles for its subscribers. It identifies and quantifies all microorganisms in the gut and analyzes what they are actually doing. By applying machine learning to this analysis, the company then makes personalized nutritional recommendations to balance the gut microbiome and ecosystem inside the body and offer transparency into health and nutrition people need to prevent chronic illnesses.
Viome is currently operating as an early beta program with several thousand customers actively using the product and plans to announce availability in the US, UK, Canada, India and Middle East starting in September.
The company, which has 45 employees located in Cupertino, Los Alamos, and New York, also counts Mark Hyman (Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine), Dave Asprey (Founder of Bulletproof), Aubrey De Grey (Biomedical Gerontologist), Dallas Hartwig (New York Times Best-Selling Author), and Dr. Tom O’Bryan (Founder of theDr.com) as ambassadors.
