NearGroup, a New Delhi, India-based developer of a Facebook messenger chatbot, raised $1.6m in seed funding.
The round was led by OpenOcean with participation from Neotribe and BoostVC.
The company will use the funds to continue to develop the platform and expand its business reach in Asia Pacific, the US and Europe.
Founded by Prashant Pitti, NearGroup is avancing a chatbot which allows people to read stories of and chat with nearby users, reveal their identity to only those they like.
The chatbot currently runs on FB messenger, Kik, Viber & Android, with plans to launch for Twitter, iPhone, and Telegram.
The company says it has 2.2 million users from 32 countries and 2.4 billion messages exchanged.
