SidelineSwap Raises $2M in Seed Extension Funding

SidelineSwap, a Boston, MA-based online marketplace for sports gear and equipment, raised $2m in seed funding.

Backers included Global Founders Capital, Haystack Partners, Riverpark Ventures and Fullstack Sports Ventures, along with the former CEO of Etsy Maria Thomas, the Formula One Managing Director and The Players’ Impact, a group of Olympians and professional athletes from the NHL, NBA, MLB and NFL.

The company, which has raised $4m to date, intends to use the funds to accelerate further growth, and enable engineering hires to improve the buying and selling experience.

Founded in 2012 and led by Brendan Candon, CEO, SidelineSwap is an online marketplace that allows athletes, regardless of age, to buy and sell new and used gear for sports like lacrosse, hockey, baseball, skiing, golf, soccer, softball, football, basketball and snowboarding.
Today, the community has more than 150,000 athletes.

The company previously raised a $1.8m in seed round in spring 2016, and prior to that, $120k from family and friends in fall 2014.
