Iris Automation, a Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada- and San Francisco, CA-based industrial drone startup, raised $8m in Series A funding.

The round was led by Bessemer Venture Partners with participation from Bee Partners.

The company intends to use the funds to expand its team of engineers that already includes Ph.D.’s in computer vision, and draws from NASA and Boeing, while scaling its technology to participate in the upcoming White House UAS Integration Pilot Projects.

Led by CEO and co-founder Alexander Harmsen and CTO and co-founder James Howard, Iris Automation is advancing automated sensing systems for collision avoidance on behalf of airborne commercial drones.
