Phoenician Capital, a New York-based money manager, received a minority investment from Mubadala Investment Co.
Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala Capital, Mubadala’s financial investment arm, made the investment whose amount was not disclosed.
Launched by John Khabbaz in 2007, Phoenician Capital is an investment management company whose founding principles “are to align interests with investors and to provide superior returns while preserving capital in the long-term”. Investments are made opportunistically in global value-oriented, high growth companies. Phoenician employs a unique private equity approach to public equities.
In 2016 and 2017, the company generated net returns of 40.8% and 33.0%, respectively, versus 12.0% and 21.8% for the S&P 500 TR.
