Community-Based Parking App SpotAngels Secures $2.3M

-

SpotAngels, a San Francisco, CA–based community-based parking app, secured $2.3m in funding.

Backers included Lars Rasmussen, Luc Vincent, Y Combinator, Streamlined Ventures and Via-ID, among others.

SpotAngels provides a community-based parking app for drivers in over 20 US cities to find parking and avoid parking tickets.

The company intends to use the funds to expand to cities across the U.S. and enhance in-app features including the launch of a new feature called “predicted availability” which allows drivers to know what the odds are of finding a spot in any given area before heading there. The new feature works by extracting historical parking data from dash cam videos that SpotAngels collects through members of its community. The company has developed proprietary computer vision technology to count parked cars on these videos to determine how occupied streets are at a given time (see video showing counting parked cars on the right curb). The new predicted availability feature will be launched in San Francisco by end of year with roll out in New York City following.
