ClimaCell, a Boston, MA-based software-based hyper-local weather forecasting company, raised $45m in Series B funding.
The round was led by Clearvision Ventures with participation from Ford Smart Mobility, Envision Ventures, Canaan, Fontinalis Partners, JetBlue Technology Ventures and Square Peg Capital.
The company intends to use the funds to expand its global presence, especially its sales team, and continue research and development of new weather sensing and forecasting methods.
Led by Shimon Elkabetz, CEO and Co-Founder, ClimaCell is a microweather technology company that finds and forecasts location-specific, short-term weather that others can’t see. The company captures millions of new hypersensing points such as those from wireless and IoT networks.
Its microweather products include HyperCast™ a web-based interactive HD weather map, HyperCast™ Aviation, and the Microweather™ API, which provides a live weather data stream for integration with other software and platforms.
Applications include autonomous vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles, and on-demand services, as well as traditional consumers of weather products, like aviation and utilities. Customers include JetBlue, Delta, Via, and Autodesk.
