Twilio (NYSE:TWLO) is to acquire SendGrid, a Denver, CO-based email API platform, for approximately $2 billion.
The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2019.
Led by Sameer Dholakia, chief executive officer, SendGrid is a digital communications platform enabling businesses to engage with their customers via email at scale. The platform has processed over 45 billion emails each month for internet and mobile-based customers as well as more traditional enterprises.
It serves such customers as Airbnb, Pandora, Hubspot, Spotify, Uber, and FourSquare, as well as more traditional enterprises like Taco Bell, Intuit and Costco.
With the acquisition, Twilio will add an email API platform to its cloud communications platform. The resulting company will offer developers a platform to manage all of their important communication channels — voice, messaging, video, and now email as well.
Led by Jeff Lawson, co-founder and chief executive officer, Twilio provides developers around the world with a toolkit to improve any human experience adding voice, text, chat, and video to their applications.
