Polarsteps, an Amsterdam, The Netherlands-based travel startup, raised €3m in Series A funding.
The round, which brought total funding to date to €4.6m, was led by Inkef Capital.
The company intends to use the funds for product development and team expansion.
Founded in 2015 by CEO Koen Droste and Niek Bokkers, Polarsteps is used by travelers in over 180 countries to track their trips and share them in real time with their closest friends and family. The company makes money by letting users buy Travel Books, instant photo albums of trips that can be ordered online.
Polarsteps automatically tracks a user’s route and places they’ve visited while they are travelling. Once connected to the internet, the app transfers travel routes, key locations and photos to a personal page, where the route is plotted on a colorful world map that can be shared realtime with friends and family. When the trip is finished, the instant photo album can be generated.
Travelers can use the app on iPhone, Android and through the website at www.polarsteps.com. One million registered users have collectively traveled over 52 million days on the app.
The company currently has 10 employees.
