Nuro, a Mountain View, CA-based maker of a self-driving vehicle made for local goods transportation, raised $940m in funding.
The SoftBank Vision Fund made the investment.
The company intends to use the funds to grow the team, develop its self-driving technology, scale its fleet, expand the delivery service, and add new partners.
Co-founded in 2016 by Dave Ferguson and Jiajun Zhu, Nuro provides a fully autonomous, on-road, low-speed, zero-emission, self-driving vehicle engineered for short neighborhood trips and for the exclusive purpose of transporting and delivering goods. It does not have space for a driver or passengers.
In 2018, the company partnered with Kroger, licensed its technology to venture backed autonomous trucking company Ike and launched in Arizona.
