Wild Earth, Inc., a Berkeley, Calif.-based startup advancing pet food with biotech, raised $11m in Series A funding.
The round, which brought total funding to $16m, was led by VegInvest, with participation from Mark Cuban’s Radical Investments, Felicis Ventures, Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund, Mars Petcare, Bits x Bites, VECTR, and P.O.V.
The company intends to use the funds to accelerate development of its no-meat food for dogs.
Led by CEO Ryan Bethencourt, chief science officer Ron Shigeta, Ph.D., and Dr. Ernie Ward, Wild Earth is developing no-meat food for dogs made from an eco-friendly and renewably sourced fungi, a complete protein containing all ten essential amino acids.
The company expects the dry kibble formula to be available in the second half of 2019.
Wild Earth treats are currently available online at WildEarth.com, Amazon.com, PupJoy.com, select brick-and-mortar retail stores, and wholesale to pet food retailers.
