NakedPoppy, a San Francisco, CA-based clean makeup startup, raises $4M in seed funding.
Backers included Cowboy Ventures, Felicis Ventures, Khosla Ventures, Maveron, Polaris Ventures, and Slow Ventures.
The company intends to use the funds to launch NakedPoppy.com.
Founded and led by proven executives Jaleh Bisharat and Kimberly Shenk, NakedPoppy is launcing NakedPoppy.com, an online platform for on-the-go women who seek high standards in hand-vetted, luxe, and long-lasting clean makeup based on patent-pending technology that curates personalized clean beauty boutiques.
The company’s personalization algorithm takes into account a wide range of considerations including skin type, skin color, skin undertone, age, eye color, hair color, allergies, sensitivities, beauty goals, and more. The technology can even interpret photographs of a customer’s wrist to accurately pinpoint her base skin color.
The service is based on cosmetic chemists who screen each ingredient in each product it sells. Out of 12,500 ingredients available for use in personal care products, the company’s pool of allowable clean ingredients is fewer than 700.
Additionally, makeup artists and staff review each product to make sure it performs.
In addition, NakedPoppy released its first branded beauty product, NakedPoppy Clean Liquid Eyeliner.
