Atomo Coffee, Inc., a Seattle, WA-based developer of molecular coffee, made without beans, secured $2.6m in seed funding.
Horizons Ventures, the private investment arm of Mr. Li Ka-shing, made the investment, following the ones in Spotify, Siri, Zoom, Improbable, Impossible Foods and Perfect Day.
The company intends to use the funds to continue to develop its coffee.
Founded by CEO Andy Kleitsch, and Chief Scientist Jarret Stopforth Ph.D., Atomo has reversed engineered the coffee bean to create a smooth cup of coffee, made of naturally derived ingredients and more sustainable than current commercial coffee.
The company has also added food and beverage technology veterans to the advisory board including, Bryan Crowley, CEO of Soylent, as well as leading expert in coffee science, Dr. Chahan Yeretzian of the Swiss Coffee Excellence Center (ZHAW).
