Astronomer, a Cincinnati, Ohio-based provider of managed Apache Airflow as a Service, raised $5.7m in seed funding.
The round was led by Sierra Ventures with participation from Bain Capital Ventures, Refinery Ventures, Frontline Capital Ventures, CincyTech, Wireframe Ventures and Grand Ventures. As part of today’s announcement, Tim Guleri, managing director of Sierra Ventures has joined the Board of Directors.
The company intends to use the funds to continue to expand operations.
Founded in 2018 by Joe Otto, CEO, Astronomer develops data orchestration solutions based on Apache Airflow. The company’s suite of products and services includes:
- a multi-tenant, multi-cloud Airflow as a Service offering, and
- a Kubernetes-native platform to deploy, manage and scale distributed Airflow services.
Initially developed at Airbnb, Apache Airflow is one of the largest open-source communities in the world and has been adopted by thousands of companies including Lyft, PayPal, Twitter, and Apple.
