Soil Scout, a Helsinki, Finland-based soil moisture sensor startup, raised a late-seed funding round of undisclosed amount.
The round was led by Husqvarna Group.
The company plans to use the funding to scale production of its system.
Led by CEO Jalmari Talola, Soil Scout is advancing a system to allow farmers, sports venues, and managers of green spaces to manage water reserves by transmitting critical soil data wirelessly from underground in real-time. Unlike above-ground solutions, the company’s sensor is capable of transmitting moisture, temperature, and salinity data in near real-time from up to 2 meters below the surface, for up to 20 years, maintenance-free.
The system also allows farmers and turf professionals like golf course superintendents and sports venues managers to gain a detailed picture of their soil quality while leaving topsoil, pitches, and greens undisturbed.
