BrainBox AI, a Montreal, Canada-based autonomous building technology maker, raised $12M in funding.
The round was led by Esplanade Ventures with participation from Desjardins Capital.
The company intends to use the funds to further deploy its AI technology for buildings across North America and abroad.
Led by Sean Neely, CEO, and Jean-Simon Venne, CTO, BrainBox AI offers technology combining deep learning, cloud-based computing and autonomous decision making to support a 24/7 self-operating building. The company’s solution enables the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system in a building to operate autonomously, in real-time, generating reduction in total energy costs, in carbon footprint and in occupant comfort.
BrainBox AI has a workforce of over 50 employees and supports real estate clients in numerous sectors, including office buildings, airports, hotels, multi-residential, long-term care facilities, grocery stores and commercial retail. In the 11 months since its launch to market in May 2019, the company has installed its self-learning technology in over 15 million square feet of commercial properties, across 15 cities on 3 continents.
