Berbix Raises $9M in Series A Funding

-

Berbix, a San Francisco, CA-based instant identity verification platform, raised $9m in Series A financing.

The round was led by Mayfield, with participation from existing investors including Initialized Capital, Y Combinator and Fika Ventures. In conjunction with the funding, Patrick Salyer, Mayfield partner, joined the board.

The company intends to use the funds for team and customer growth.

Founded in 2018 by Steve Kirkham and Eric Levine who previously led the Trust and Safety team at Airbnb, Berbix provides a solution that delivers an Internet identity verification experience for consumers and businesses.  It uses machine learning techniques to instantly spot fraud and includes an optional “liveness” check, which requires people to react to specific instructions. This ensures that a real person is present instead of a photo of that person.
