Kymeta Corporation, a Redmond, Wash.-based communications company making mobile global, raised approximately $85m in funding.
The round was led by Bill Gates with members of the leadership team personally investing approximately $1m led by Executive Chairman, Doug Hutcheson.
The company will use the funds to strengthen and accelerate new product development and commercialization for satellite and cellular communications globally.
Kymeta also acquired Lepton Global Solutions LLC, a provider of satellite-based customized turn-key communications solutions and services with expertise in the Intelligence Community (IC), Special Operations Command (SOC) and other government sectors.
Acquiring Lepton strengthens Kymeta’s ability to pursue key opportunities with U.S. defense and government customers in locations around the world.
