Epidemic Sound, a Stockholm, Sweden-based platform for restriction-free music, raised $450m in funding at a $1.4billion valuation.
Backers included funds managed by Blackstone Growth and EQT Growth.
The company intends to use the funds to expand its business reach internationally to reach new creators in both existing territories like North America whilst also localizing its digital offering and to invest in the core user experience it offers.
Co-founded in 2009 by CEO Oscar Höglund and Jan Zachrisson, Epidemic Sound is a platform for restriction-free music. It features an digital rights model that allows creators – everyone from YouTubers to small businesses to the world’s largest brands – to use ‘restriction-free music’ to whilst supporting the musicians it works with both financially and creatively.
The company has offices in six major cities across the globe: Stockholm, New York, Los Angeles, Seoul, Hamburg and Amsterdam.
