The founders ofĀ Airwallex, a global payments platform, have establishedĀ a new venture capital fund.
Capital 49 will invest into early stage, high-growth technology-enabled companies powered by Airwallex’s infrastructure.Ā The new fund aims to raiseĀ US$200mĀ through the Airwallex founders and other investors.
The vehicle will look for opportunities to invest among companies within Airwallex’s ecosystem, across a number of industries including e-commerce, SaaS, digital and technology, business services and enablers, and fintech. To date, Capital 49 has completed investments in two such fintech firms.Ā
It will be led by Jack Zhang, Co-founder and CEO of Airwallex.
Founded in 2015 inĀ MelbourneĀ and headquartered inĀ Hong Kong, Airwallex is a global fintech payment platform that allows businesses of all sizes to manage payments, treasury and expenses globally, without the limits of the traditional financial system. The company has secured overĀ US$500 millionĀ since it was established inĀ MelbourneĀ in 2015. Today, the business operates with a team of over 800 employees across 12 global offices.
