BYJU’S Acquires Epic, For $500M

BYJU’S, an Indian personalized online learning company, acquired Epic, a Palo Alto, CA-based digital reading platform for kids 12 and under, for $500M.

The acquisition will help expand BYJU’S U.S. footprint by providing access to the more than two million teachers and 50 million kids in Epic’s existing global user-base. Suren Markosian, Epic CEO and co-founder Kevin Donahue, will remain in their roles.

Epic is a digital reading platform for kids built on a collection of 40,000+ books, audiobooks and videos from 250+ of the world’s best publishers. The company reaches more than 50 million kids in homes and classrooms.

Led by Byju Raveendran, Founder and CEO, and Anita Kishore, Chief Strategy Officer, BYJU’S is a global leader in online learning for students in K-12. The company, which is backed by General Atlantic, Sequoia Capital, the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative, Naspers, Silver Lake, Tiger Global and others, has just launched BYJU’S Future School, an online one-on-one live learning platform for Math and Coding.

Already used by more than 100 million students worldwide, BYJU’S will invest $1 Billion in North America to accelerate its vision of helping students fall in love with learning.
