Councilbox, a Madrid, Spain-based legaltech startup, raised €5M (US$6M) in Series A funding.
The round was led by Adara Ventures, with participation from Telefonica’s Wayra and ABANCA.
The company intends to use the funds to accelerate growth, expand its team, and begin its international expansion
Founded in 2015 by Galician entrepreneurs Agustín Tourón and Victor López, and led by new CEO, Javier Polo, formerly the CEO of cloud gaming startup Playgiga, a Spanish company to be acquired by Facebook in 2019, Councilbox provides a video conferencing platform that guarantees the legal validity of any administrative meetings that take place remotely. The system, which features identity verification of meeting attendees, digital signatures, automatic minutes tracking, a secure voting system, and more, has hosted 600+ meetings with more than 120,000 votes cast in 2020, and reached 450+ meetings and 80,000 votes in the first half of 2021. Notable clients include Spain’s Ministry of Justice, the Spanish Olympic Committee, Booking.com, the Madrid Assembly, Acciona, Codere, Cuatrecasas, Solaria, Meliá Hotels, Banca March, Sacyr, the Mutual Society of the Legal Profession, among others.
