Advanced Farm Technologies, Inc., a Davis, Calif.-based developer of robotic technology for farmers, completed a $25m Series B funding round.
The round was led by Catapult Ventures with participation from existing investors Kubota Corporation, Yamaha Motor Corporation, and Impact Ventures.
The company intends to use the funds to scale its team and robotic technology, expand its market share and adapt its technology for new crops.
Led by Kyle Cobb, President, Advanced Farm Technologies provides a robotic strawberry harvester that automatically senses and picks red, ripe fruit from in-soil strawberry beds. The machine – designed to work alongside manual harvest crews – consists of multiple, rugged robots able to withstand the rigors of outdoor, in-soil conditions with sophisticated computer vision and machine learning technology to navigate fields and harvest fruit autonomously up to 24 hours a day.
The company has assisted the world’s leading strawberry growers, including GoodFarms, The Oppenheimer Group (Oppy), and Naturipe to bring tens of thousands of pounds of fresh fruit to market.
