Ursa Major, a Lafayette and Berthoud, Colorado-based aerospace startup, raised $85M in Series C funding.
The round was led by funds and accounts managed by BlackRock, with participation from XN and Explorer 1, as well as existing insiders Alsop Louie Partners, Alpha Edison, Dolby Family Ventures, Space Capital, and Harpoon Ventures.
The company intends to use the funds to increase production and development of liquid propulsion rocket engines for launch and hypersonic applications.
Led by CEO and Founder Joe Laurienti, Ursa Major is a pure-play rocket propulsion company, developing performing, lowest cost, and reliable engines for launch and hypersonic applications. With over 125 employees, Ursa Major utilizes 3D printing and onsite test facilities to rapidly cycle through the building, testing, and production of rocket engines.
The company has already partnered with commercial launch providers such as Stratolaunch, Phantom Space, Generation Orbit, and defense prime contractors, as well as signed contracts with the U.S. Air Force and the Defense Manufacturing Institutes.
