Swappie, a Helsinki, Finland-based end-to-end online destination for buying and selling refurbished smartphones, raised $124M (€108M) in Series C funding.
The round was led by growth equity firm Verdane, with participation from existing investors Lifeline Ventures, Inventure, Reaktor Ventures and TESI.
The company intends to use the funds to bolster its European expansion focusing on scaling operations in its existing 15 markets across the continent, notably in Italy and Germany, and increasing its headcount to 2,200 people by the end of 2022.
Led by Sami Marttinen, Co-founder and CEO, and Emma Lehikoinen, Chief Operating Officer, Swappie is an end-to-end online destination for buying and selling refurbished smartphones, which currently operates in 15 countries across Europe; including Sweden, Italy and Germany. The company grew in 2020 with sales of $110M (€97M), and since its inception in August 2016, Swappie expanded its team to over 1,200 and raised $171M (€149M) from investors to date.
