Verna Earth Solutions, a Borehamwood, England, UK-based provider of geospatial data science solutions addressing climate and nature crises, raised £860k in funding.

The round was led by Vanneck EIS with participation from Octopus Ventures. This round follows earlier announcement of £1.4m UK Government innovation contract.

The company intends to use the funds to grow the team and build new products and services and to broaden the range of nature and climate opportunities Verna’s tools can help realise.

Led by Matthew Brown, Verna is a mission-driven business using geospatial data science to address the climate and nature crises. The company helps landowners, investors, and policymakers to use land in ways that draw down carbon, enhance biodiversity and generate sustainable returns – e.g. through woodland creation, habitat creation and enhancement, and regenerative agriculture.

The company is currently working on systems to identify the best carbon and biodiversity options for land across a wider range of interventions – including, for example, peatland restoration and grassland enhancement – and assess opportunities to monetise such as through Biodiversity Net Gain.
