Meta (Stock price: MVRS) reportedly acquired Luxexcel, an Eindhoven, The Netherlands-based smart eyewear company.
The amount of the deal was not disclosed.
The acquisition will presumably enable Meta to produce prescription AR glasses.
Founded in 2009, Luxexcel is a technology provider for 3D printed prescription lenses. The company aims to accelerate the adoption of consumer smart eyewear by meeting the needs of more than 75% of the adult world population requiring prescription lenses. It enables this with its patented 3D printing manufacturing platform. Original equipment and device manufacturers use it to design and produce custom, lightweight, smart prescription eyewear on-demand and in a fashionable form factor suitable for the mass market. The company also has branch offices in Belgium and the United States.
