Vector Photonics, a Glasgow, UK-based laser developer, received a £2.4m in growth funding.
The round was co-led by UK clean tech investment specialist Clean Growth Fund and deep-tech specialist Foresight WAE Technology (FWT) Funds with continued commitment from existing investors UKI2S and Equity Gap, and new investment from Scottish Enterprise.
Led by Neil Martin, CEO, Vector Photonics is commercialising PCSELs (Photonic Crystal Surface Emitting Lasers) with the aim to innovate laser manufacture and performance. This new class of laser offers high speed and power and can be manufactured at low cost – three characteristics not simultaneously achievable with current semiconductor lasers.
Vector’s first product will target datacentre networks.
The company is a spin-out from the University of Glasgow (in 2020).
