CCP Games, a Reykjavík, Iceland-based indipendent game developer, raised $40M in funding.
The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), with participation from Makers Fund, BITKRAFT, Kingsway Capital, HASHED, Nexon, and additional participants.
The company intends to use the funds to build upon the discoveries of its research & development team to enable the full-scale development of a new AAA title utilizing blockchain technology, set within the EVE Universe.
Founded in 1997 and led by CEO Hilmar V. Pétursson, CCP games is an independent game developer that is “on a mission to create virtual worlds more meaningful than real life.” With the launch of sci-fi spacefaring MMO EVE Online in May 2003, CCP established itself as a pioneer of massively multiplayer games, winning numerous awards and receiving critical acclaim worldwide.
CCP is headquartered in Reykjavik, Iceland, and has additional studios in London and Shanghai.
