Hyfé, a San Francisco, CA-based company transforming food processing wastewater into feedstocks for biomanufacturing and clean water, raised $9M in funding.

The round was led by Synthesis Capital. Additional participating investors included The Engine, Refactor Capital, Supply Change Capital, Overwater Ventures, X Factor Ventures and Alumni Ventures. Rosie Wardle, co-founder and partner at Synthesis Capital, will also join the company’s Board of Directors.

The company intends to use the funds to advance select commercial partnerships, double its employee headcount, and progress towards pilot scale technology demonstration.

Led by CEO Michelle Ruiz, Hyfé provides technology that processes nutrient building blocks from wastewater into feedstocks for bioprocesses. It enables water reuse and lowers the cost of wastewater and water management at food manufacturing facilities while enabling abundant and underutilized waste streams to accelerate the growth of the bioeconomy.
