Newsela, a New York-based provider of a K-12 instructional content platform, acquired Formative, a Santa Monica, CA-based provider of a real-time instruction and assessment platform.

The amount of the deal was not disclosed.

This acquisition brings together two classroom products to provide a comprehensive instructional solution that engages students and accelerates learning.

Led by CEO Craig Jones, Formative empowers educators to charge their existing lessons and teaching tools into data-rich, formative-learning experiences across the grade level and subject matter. Its Customer Success team ensures that administrators and teachers get the most from the platform, providing support for the level of technology in the classroom.

Led by CEO Pep Carrera, Newsela is an education technology company dedicated to providing meaningful classroom learning for students. With over 15,000 authentic texts published at five reading levels, teacher scaffolding tools and activities, and flexible formative assessments, its products provide K-12 teachers with the instructional content they need to support and grow learners.
