Spiritus, a San Francisco, CA-based climate tech company, raised $11M in Series A funding.
The round was led by Khosla Ventures and other investors, including Page One Ventures.
The company intends to use the funds to develop and scale its technology further.
Led by CEO Charles Cadieu, Spiritus leverages the properties of its sorbent and a novel desorption process to create the Spiritus Carbon Orchard. It uses passive air contacting, without needing energy-intensive fans, to bind CO2 to the sorbent, allowing for energy-efficient capture with a modular, scalable design for directly capturing CO2 from the air. The Spiritus Carbon Orchard circulates the Spiritus Sorbent between passive air contacting and the novel non-TVSA desorption system to remove the CO2. Aligned with the future of sustainable energy production, the Carbon Orchard operates on renewable energy sources.
The company has already formed partnerships with companies looking to address direct air capture challenges and looks forward to announcing them soon.
