HaiLa Technologies, a Montreal, Canada-based semiconductor and software company, raised $10.35M in funding.
Backers included Murata Electronics and existing investors Stanford University, Mika, Ecofuel Fund, Chrysalix, and TandemLaunch.
The company, which has raised USD$16.8m in funding to date, including non-dilutive financing from Sustainable Development Technology Canada and TechnoClimat Quebec, intends to use the funds to drive R&D development, allow the team to grow, and bring ultra low-power system-on-chip (SoC) solutions to market.
Led by Derek Kuhn, CEO, HaiLa is a semiconductor and software company developing multi-protocol (like Wi-Fi) radio communication for IoT devices. Originally conceptualized at Stanford University, it is focusing on scaling IoT sustainably by using complimentary methods to the way data is received and transmitted, removing the need for battery maintenance, and leveraging existing wireless infrastructures.
Customers and partners are focused on the smart home and building automation spaces, along with consumer electronics, mobile, industrial, transportation, medical, and agriculture markets.
