D-Orbit, a Fino Mornasco, Como, Italy-based space logistics company, raised €100m in Series C funding.
The round was led by led by Marubeni Corp., with participation from Avantgarde, CDP VC, Seraphim Space Investment Trust, United Ventures, Indaco Venture Partners, Neva SGR, and Primo Ventures.
The company intends to use the funds to continue to expand its space logistics service into in-orbit servicing and space cloud computing, and to expand its capabilities in the U.S., Europe, and the United Kingdom.
Founded in 2011 and led by CEO Luca Rossettini, D-Orbit is a global market leader in the space logistics and transportation service industries. The company has developed proprietary space logistics technology and transportation solutions to accelerate the growth and development of the space economy through an incremental strategic approach to the space marketplace to deliver customer outcomes today while developing advanced products and services for the needs of tomorrow. The company, which has already flown over 70 payloads, provides ION Satellite Carrier, a vehicle that can transport satellites in orbit and release them individually into distinct orbital slots, and a proprietary cloud-based mission control software suite designed to control entire satellite constellations. They have launched 13 ION orbital transfer missions, and its customers include Spire Global, AAC Clyde Space, and Alba Orbital.
D-Orbit is already developing and testing new technologies to extend the life of satellites in orbit, perform active debris removal, enable interplanetary space logistics, and more.
